VHS tape, 8mm tape, or Mini DV to DVD

We all accumulate video in various formats. It's called history and it's important. As technology develops our history can become inaccessible, for example Betamax tapes were discontinued in 1998 and Sony Minidisks are now defunct. But worst of all - VHS tape is degrading as it sits.

How long does Vide Tape Last?
In general, just about any high quality branded tape will last at least 5 years while retaining acceptable image quality if properly stored, not too badly abused or simply worn out due to repeated use. Shortly thereafter, image quality degradation becomes more noticeable, as the tape slowly demagnetizes and physically degrades. By 10 years, the image quality becomes "noisy - with lack of detail". By 20 years (if you're lucky), the binder begins to show the effects of hydrolysis and the tape is now on borrowed time.

The good news is we are able to retrieve your old data and update it to current standards such as DVD, Mini DV tape or computer files. Best of all, VHS tape is now converted into a digital format, which suffers no loss of clarity when it is duplicated. Your history is captured and maintained for now and the future.
How much does It cost?
We transfer one VHS tape to one DVD. It is an automated process. The DVD can accept up to 2 hours of video. The cost is $37.50 taxes included. For this you get:
1 - a high quality Taiyo Yuden DVD-R disk playable on most DVD players out there (anything after 1995);
2 - imprinted title on the DVD-R. This is not a stick on label but an actual imprint;
3 - the DVD is contained in a black amaray case (just like the store); and
4 - The case front has an imprinted trapsheet with the same titles.
Can I put more than 1 tape on a DVD?
Not for $37.50 . We can quote this option, but the labour is much higher as the tape is encoded into our computer and assemble into a DVD structure. We quote service on a project basis. Ask us for details.
How Much time can i record on a DVD?
The maximum time is 2 hours. If you have extended play DVD's, we will have to split these up into multiple DVD's and charge you "per DVD".
Will you duplicate the DVD?
We have a tower duplicator for DVD's and can quote very competitive rates for duplication. Ask us for a price.
Can you convert 8mm and MiniDV tape
Yes we do. We charge a one-time setup fee for this service. Please ask for a price.
Can you convert Super 8 film?
We have made a business decision not to do this. We always intend to be the best in our field and do not wish to participate if this is not possible.
Can you convert my Movie Library of hollywood classics?
We will not convert any media that is copyrighted. You must own the rights to the content. This includes any purchased/copied movies, copied TV programs, or downloaded internet files.
Will my DVD play in all DVD players?
DVD-R is the most reliable format for DVD. It plays in over 90% of the players out there. Other formats such as DVD +R offer more playing time but only play in 60% of the players. Many of our competitors use them because they are less expensive to purchase.
Can you improve the image quality?
The image quality can be no better then the image on the tape. If the media is worn out, or degraded, the damage will be recorded because it exists on the tape. Claims to improve this are totally false. What we do offer is improved stability in the time base (stuttering) and some improvement in pixellation due to filters, which are applied by our burner.
Can I do this?
Machines are available for under $400 that will do this task. We paid over $1,500 for our professional grade unit from JVC and their is a reason for that price - it does a much better job of handling old tapes and accounting for speed and pixellation errors. But you need to make the call.
Can I edit my DVD on a computer?
The DVD is not directly editable by computer software; however, all clients who purchase from us will receive at no charge a piece of software that will allow you to transcode the DVD into a format that can be edited by iMovie on the Mac or Windows Movie Maker on the PC.
What guarantee do you offer?
We guarantee that the DVD-R will play in our rated machines with no problems. We do not guarantee it will play in every machine.
